The title gets one line and the copy up to two; anything longer turns into an ellipsis. Side by side is when ChatGPT shows two ads from different advertisers.

How to use the preview tool
- Fill in the advertiser name and, if you like, upload the favicon. Both come from the ad account and sit on the first line of the card, next to the Ad label.
- Write the title and the copy while watching the counters: OpenAI accepts up to 50 and 100 characters but recommends 16 to 24 for the title and 32 to 48 for the copy.
- Drag the creative into the upload area. It has to be square, and the tool warns you when the file is off in size or format.
- Switch between desktop, mobile and side by side and check the table to see where the title and copy show in full before you build the ad in Ads Manager.
How the ad shows up in ChatGPT
The ad sits below the answer, after a line that separates what ChatGPT wrote from what is advertising. The card has the square image on the left and, next to it, the favicon, the advertiser name and the Ad label, with the title and copy right below. The whole card is the link: the landing page URL is not shown.
There are no keywords. ChatGPT picks the ad from the intent of the conversation, the context hints in the ad group and the landing page itself, and sometimes shows two ads from different advertisers side by side. That is where space gets tight: a title that fits on desktop can end in an ellipsis on the narrow card.
ChatGPT Ads specs
The counters and warnings in the tool follow the OpenAI specs for the standard ad:
- Title
up to 50 characters
OpenAI recommends 16 to 24. The title gets a single line and the rest becomes an ellipsis, especially on mobile and side by side. - Copy
up to 100 characters
The recommendation is 32 to 48. The card shows up to two lines; use the copy to complete the title with a benefit or a concrete detail. - Image
1:1 · 256 to 1200 px
Square, in PNG or JPG. Avoid using your logo as the main image: the favicon already identifies the brand. - Name and favicon
set on the account
They apply to every ad in the account. The favicon must be square and at least 128 × 128 px.
Frequently asked questions
Where do ads show up in ChatGPT?
Below the answer, separated from it by a line and marked with the Ad label. Ads show to people on the Free and Go plans; Plus, Pro and business plan subscribers do not see ads, and neither do accounts of people under 18. Conversations about health, mental health and politics are left out.
Why is my title cut off if it is under 50 characters?
Because 50 is the entry limit, not the visible space. The card keeps one line for the title and two for the copy, and the width changes with the screen: on mobile and when two ads show side by side, far less fits. That is why OpenAI recommends 16 to 24 characters for the title and 32 to 48 for the copy.
Is ChatGPT Ads available in my country?
OpenAI has been opening the platform country by country since February 2026, when ads started in the United States. The OpenAI Help Center keeps the current list of countries where businesses can use the self-serve Ads Manager.
Does the image I upload go to a server?
No. The image and the favicon are read in your own browser, show up only in the preview and are gone when you close the page.
Does it work for product ads with prices?
No. Product feed campaigns use cards of their own, with price, rating and a carousel of several products. The tool reproduces the standard ad, built from a title, copy and an image.
Is the preview identical to what shows up in ChatGPT?
It is a faithful approximation of the current card. OpenAI tests layout variations often, and the exact cut-off point changes with the device and the font, so use the preview to leave room to spare, not to count letter by letter.
