How to use the preview tool

  1. Fill in the page name, primary text, link headline and description. The preview updates as you type.
  2. Drop your creative into the upload area (or click to browse) and pick the aspect ratio: 1:1 or 4:5 for the feeds.
  3. Switch between Facebook Feed, Instagram Feed and Stories to check how each placement crops text and image.
  4. Adjust the copy until the key information is visible, then build the ad in Ads Manager.

What is an ad preview for?

Launching the campaign only to find that the headline got cut off, or that the hook fell behind “See more”, costs review and approval time. With the preview, you validate creative and copy before opening Ads Manager, align with the team and build the campaign once.

Each placement truncates text at a different point. In the feed, the primary text shows about 125 characters before “See more”; the link headline holds around 40; the description doesn't always appear. In Stories, the image and the button carry the message. Checking those cuts up front keeps half-sentences out of your live ads.

Specs worth checking

The limits the preview applies:

  • Primary text~125 visible characters
What the feed shows before “See more”. Concentrate the message and the call to action in that first stretch.
  • Link headlineup to 40 characters
Shown prominently under the image on Facebook. Beyond that it tends to get clipped on smaller screens.
  • Link descriptionup to 30 characters
An optional complement to the headline. It isn't always displayed; don't rely on it for key information.
  • Aspect ratios1:1 · 4:5 · 9:16
1:1 and 4:5 work in the feeds; 4:5 takes up more of the phone screen. Stories wants 9:16, always full screen.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read locally, appears only in the preview and is discarded when the page closes.

Why does my text look cut off in the preview?

Because that's how Meta displays it: each placement has a limit. The feed shows about 125 characters of primary text before “See more”, the headline holds around 40 and the description, when shown, around 30. The preview applies those cuts so you can fix the copy first.

Does it work for carousel or video ads?

Not in this version. It simulates single-image ads in the Facebook feed, the Instagram feed and Stories. Carousels and video have their own cropping and ratio rules.

Are the previews identical to the real app?

They're a faithful approximation of the placements. The app adjusts details per device, font and version, and the exact text cutoff can vary by a few characters.
